Carolina Common Enterprise 3.0: Co-Owning the Future
Carolina Common Enterprise is evolving. For years, we have been a nonprofit dedicated to helping communities explore the cooperative business model. Much of our work was made possible through grant funding, allowing us to provide services at little to no cost. But times have changed.
Today, as Carolina Common Enterprise 3.0, we are stepping boldly into a new era: transitioning into a worker-owned cooperative and expanding our fee-for-service model. This shift makes us stronger, more sustainable, and more aligned with the values we teach every day. In other words, we are practicing what we preach—building a cooperative business together.
A Resource for Communities
Now more than ever, CCE is a resource for organizations that want to explore cooperative solutions to community needs. Whether you are:
- a church group discerning how to keep a childcare center affordable,
- a civic or activist organization envisioning local food access,
- a school or youth group preparing the next generation of entrepreneurs,
- or a neighborhood association thinking about housing, energy, or elder care—
CCE offers technical and legal assistance to help turn vision into reality.
Partnerships in Action
We know that lasting change starts at the grassroots. That is why we are proud to partner with the Ella Baker Educational Project of North Carolina, whose history of organizing and community engagement brings people together in conversations about their needs. Together, we help groups ask the right question:
Could a cooperative business model address this challenge?
If the answer is yes, CCE walks with the group through every step—from idea to incorporation—to make sure the cooperative is legally sound, technically strong, and community-controlled.
An Invitation
This Cooperative Month, we invite churches, schools, civic organizations, nonprofits, and community leaders across North Carolina to bring the cooperative message home. Let’s spark conversations in your circles about how cooperation can build community wealth, protect our families, and give us control over the institutions that shape our lives.
Carolina Common Enterprise is ready to partner, teach, and support. Together, we can build not just businesses—but futures that we own, together.
